JOHN WINTER
METALLURGICAL PRODUCTS FOR FERROUS AND NON FERROUS ALLOYS
FLUXES, DEGASSING, GRAIN REFINING, MODIFYING AND MORE
Fluxes, Grain Refiners, Degassing Tablets for Aluminium Foundries and Slag Coagulants
John Winter has a range of products in stock for both Ferrous and Non Ferrous Foundries for controlling and preventing dross inclusions and fluid slags from entering castings.
For processing aluminium, powder fluxes, grain refiners, modifiers and degassing tablets are a critically important part of the production of aluminium castings and graphite lances are also available for rotary degassing machines. For Copper alloys and there are a number of fluxes available and for Iron and Steel foundries controlling and eliminating fluid slag is always a challenge. Filters play a big part in preventing it from entering castings but Slagcure K and Slag Coagulant is equally effective to produce quality castings and prolong ladle life by reducing slag build up.
Aluminium Degassing, Grain Refining and Modifying
A range of products for the treatment of Aluminium Alloys
Gas Control Tablet
Elidron
Degas
Plunge to the bottom of the melt with a steel or graphite bell plunger to effectively remove hydrogen gas. Once bubbling stops the metal can be tested on an MK Test Unit. Available in 200gram tablets.
Gas Control Tablets
Regas AL Tablets
Gas Additive
Regas AL is a very effective gas additive tablet for very thin section die castings. Regas aids metal flow on very hard-to-make die castings to prevent subsurface defects.
Its a high quality, proven product and been approved in foundries governed by automotive quality standards.
TiBor Refiner
Germinal 1520
Grain Refiner
Grain refiner (also referred to as innoculant) is an essential component of the treatment of aluminium. It ensures the as-cast structure is not coarse which can produce low tensile strengths. Supplied in 200gram tablets.
Sodium Modifier
Napal 950
Modify High Silicon Alloys
Napal 950 is an effective sodium modifier for Eutectic aluminium alloys like LM6 and grades that have a silicon content in the region of 10 to 12%. It can be used to modify the silicon structure in hypo eutectic alloys like to LM25 to improve machineability. Supplied in 200g tablets.
Fluxes for Aluminium Alloys
A range of highly effective fluxes for cleaning aluminium alloys
Flux
Exopure AL135
General use Flux for
LM0, LM4, LM25, LM6
Exopure AL135 is a general purpose, drossing flux for the most common grades of aluminium, such as LM25, LM6. This flux works best at a metal temperature of 750C. It effectively removes oxides and dross from the metal to leave a clean quality alloy.
Flux
Coverflux 0021
General use Flux for
Lower Casting Temps
Coverflux 0021 is a high quality flux that works well at lower temperatures (710C).
A premium grade flux used extensively across UK and Globally.
Available in 25kg and 1 tonne bulk bag.
Flux
Cover 302
Specialist Flux for
Higher Mg Alloys
Coverflux 302 is a specialist, low sodium grade flux for alloys with a higher magnesium content and sensitive to sodium contamination.
Flux
Ecopure 164
Specialist grade for
Flux Injection
Ecopure 164 is a specially formulated flux with a smaller grain size. It can be injected into the alloy through a rotary degassing lance and purged with nitrogen gas to produce a clean, oxide-free melt.
Flux for Zinc Alloys
Clean metal surface and prevent prevent inclusions
Zn
Zinc Alloys
Ecopure Zn 21
Specialist Flux for
Zn Alloy
Ecopure Zn 21 is a flux for cleaning and improving the fluidity of molten zinc for casting and in hot dipping tanks.
Flux for Melting and Refining Lead
Clean metal surface and reduce metal losses
Zn
Pb
Lead Flux
Ecopure Pb
Specialist Flux for
Cleaning Lead
Ecopure Pb is used to separate dross from liquid lead to prevent metal losses. The lead dross thats removed from the metal surface will be a mixture of dry ash-like oxides containing no liquid metal.
Oxidising Fluxes for Copper Alloys
Clean metal surface and prevent gas defects
Cu
Cu Alloy Flux
Cupracover 520
Protective Flux for
Aluminium Bronze
Cupracover 520 is a coverflux used on AB1, AB2 and AB3 aluminum bronze. Acts as a shield on the surface of the metal to prevent moisture ingress into the melt. Degassing aluminium bronze can be done with Codegas 137 or nitrogen gas bubbled through a compatible graphite lance.
Cu
Cu Alloy Flux
Ecopure 526
Oxidising Flux
for Gunmetal
Ecopure 526 is an oxidising flux for the melting of Gunmetal. 526 is suited to foundries producing gunmetal from clean ingot/ scrap.
If using an oxidising flux the metal must then be dexoxised using CT Tubes.
Deoxidising Treatments for Copper Alloys
Clean metal surface and prevent gas defects
Cu
Cu Alloy Degas
Codegas 137
Deoxidizing Capsule for
Aluminium Bronze
Codegas is a capsule that effectively deoxidises aluminium bronze. 1x capsule will deoxidise 50kg's of metal. Pre warm the capsule then plunge to the bottom of the melt with a graphite plunger. Suitable for crucible melting in smaller quantities.
Cu
NOT suitable for aluminium bronzes or Nickel Bronzes
Cu Alloy Degas
CT Tubes
Deoxidizing Bronze Alloys
CT Tubes deoxidise Gunmetal, Pure Copper & phosphour bronzes. Must be plunged to the bottom of the melt using a graphite plunger and used with compatible oxidising flux. CT3 Tubes will treat 25kgs. CT4 Tubes will treat 50kg's.
Cu
Melting Copper
Charcoal
Used on surface of high
purity copper alloys
Charcoal is often used as a protective barrier to prevent the oxidation of the metal surface.
Iron & Steel Metal Cleaning
Surface treatment coagulants and fluxes
Fe
Slag Removal
Slag Coagulant
Binds liquid slag on
Iron & Steel
A granular coagulant that binds liquid slag together so it can be easily removed from the metal surface. 2 or 3 applications will produce a clean metal surface prior to casting.
Available in 25kg bags of Fine, Medium and Coarse grades.
Slag Removal
Slagcure K
Prevents liquid slag build-up
on Furnaces and Ladles
A blend of oxides that help to prevent liquid slag from solidifying and building up on furnace and ladle linings therefore, extending the service life of refractories. Especially useful for ductile iron treatment vessels and for steels prone to excessive slag volumes.
