The days of acrid, smoke filled foundries is disappearing and if it hasn't yet, it soon will. The world needs a foundry industry but not at any cost to the well-being of the work force or the planet. Technological advances have made it possible to cure conventional silica sand cores with just warm air. Foundries can now produce sand moulds for castings that produce no VOC's or fumes during manufacture, pouring, shakeout plus waste streams that are suitable for beneficial reuse.
